Eighteen months ago I placed a “pause” on Flour & Fig to give myself time and space to arrange for a temporary move to Rome. I never imagined just how much time and effort it would take to gather all the information, documents and letters to arrange for a long-term visa in Italy. It was worth it. Those many months living in Rome were a dream come true, a great learning experience, and a humbling experience. I loved every minute.
Our apartment was beautiful and situated in a great neighborhood. Several grocery stores, bakeries, cafes, restaurants, bars, wine shops all within walking distance. Which was essential as we didn’t have a car. I became friends with the men at the wine shop, and they were kind enough to deliver, which was a blessing. Stefania who owned the fruit and vegetable stand at the open market was also great help in selection and the correct pronunciation, along with countless others that helped make this journey a time to remember.
I’m back now and in the coming months hope to share with you many of my experiences with the foods of Rome and regions I visited.
