Simple Vanilla Buttercream Frosting
This is a very basic, very simple buttercream frosting. It works well if you don't have the time for the Italian or Swiss versions. You can change it a bit with adding different extracts, in addition to the Vanilla like Mint or Lemon, and even add a touch of food coloring. Also try adding a 1/4 cup of cream cheese instead of the sour cream for a bit different flavor and slightly different texture.
Ingredients
- 1 cup unsalted butter (228g)
- 4 cup powdered sugar (480g)
- 1/4 cup heavy whipping cream (60ml)
- 1/4 cup sour cream (58g)
- 1 tsp vanilla extract (4.3g)
Instructions
- Place the room temperature butter, vanilla, cream and sour cream in a mixing bowl and beat at high speed until completely combined and very creamy
- Sift in the powdered sugar, start beating again at low speed. As soon as the powdered sugar has been absorbed, turn speed to high and beat until the frosting is smooth and creamy.
- You may refrigerate the frosting at this point if it is too soft to spread.
- You can change the flavor of this basic buttercream with additions of different extracts like Mint or Lemon, and change the look by adding a drop of food coloring.
